Jeffrey's, a popular steakhouse in Austin, peaked my interest as soon as I found out it was owned by the same people as restaurants like Perla's, Clark's Oyster Bar, and Elizabeth Street Cafe. Although none of these restaurants had gluten-free menus, the options available were plentiful. The same can be said about Jeffrey's; although the restaurant has no gluten-free menu, the quality of the gluten-free options, along with the care of the staff regarding gluten sensitivity, showcases the true nature of the restaurant. I feel like this restaurant is a prime example that the presence of gluten-free menus (or listed options) doesn't necessarily mean that the restaurant is better for gluten-sensitive people. Regardless of a lack of marked gluten-free options, there are a lot of good gluten-free dishes; from the Truffled Deviled Eggs to the multiple steak options to the gluten-free Intemperance Cake, there were a decent amount of gluten-free options to choose from.
The ambience of the restaurant reminds me of a high-end yet old-fashioned Hollywood restaurant or country club, but it also feels homey. The presentation of the restaurant, consisting of golden, white, and blue tones throughout the decor and lighting, matches with the delicate presentation of the food. The deviled eggs were plated beautifully, with a thin layer of truffle placed on the top of each egg; the steak was plated center, with plenty but not too much seasoning (unlike the steak I had at the Domain location of Perry's Steakhouse). One of the best parts of the restaurant is the scent of the fresh baked bread (not gluten-free) and the truffled popcorn (gluten-free), which further play into the restaurant's cozy and classy feel.
Although the restaurant may seem very expensive compared to many restaurants in Austin, the pricing is actually very close to other Austin Steakhouses that I've been to, such as The Capital Grille and Perry's Steakhouse, and the quality suggests that this might be the best steakhouse that I've ever been to. While this may come off as hyperbole, it is indeed one of the best steakhouses I have tried. From the presentation to the quality of the food, my only wish is that they added a marker for the dishes that are gluten-free.
