The idea of getting takeout during a pandemic can seem very dangerous, but the restaurant Honest Mary’s shows that takeout can be done very safely and quickly. Their system involves ordering online and putting your food on a designated shelf outside; you don’t have to enter the restaurant, sign anything with a used pen, or interact with any people. All in all, it took my family less than a minute from leaving to re-entering the car.

Honest Mary’s, like restaurants like Flower Child, clearly specializes in fresh and healthy food. The only dessert, after all, is an Almond Butter Cookie, which wasn’t as bad as it sounds. I got the Aloha Poke bowl with a Ginger Limeade; the lemonade reminded me of Flower Child’s, as it was very tart and tropical, but the Poke spotlighted the only flaw with the restaurant. The Poke was fresh, with quality fish and ingredients such as Jalapeños and edamame, but it was lacking in flavor. In an effort to be healthy, I felt that the restaurant sacrificed flavor. Sure, the Jalapeños gave the dish a nice spicy kick, but the Sesame sauce was relatively bland; maybe substituting in one of the other sauces would’ve been better. Still, the food was very high quality, especially during a time when it is harder to get good restaurant food experiences.
Another pro was the restaurant's gluten-free options; almost, if not everything, I saw on the menu was gluten-free. Although this doesn't say much because the menu is very small overall, finding a gluten-free meal here is easy. For all of its flaws regarding flavor and lovability (the food had no "wow-factor" for me), the gluten-free options, freshness, and COVID-19 procedures, push this restaurant to a recommendation.
