Flower Child Review

Updated: Jun 28, 2020

NOTE: This review is of the location in the Domain in Austin, TX, and was conducted in late February of 2020.

I’m sorry, but I may be slightly obsessed with Flower Child, but with all of its GF options, can you really blame me? Everything GF on the menu is marked, and they have a huge variety of… Salads and healthy foods?! I know that the idea of a restaurant that specializes in salads sounds boring; it may even sound dreadful. As a friend of mine joked, you may want to call it “Dirt and Sticks”; if the place truly represents that claim, then they succeed in masking it.

The salads were a huge surprise to me; when I tried my “Organic Kale” salad (bad name), it was really flavorful, full of vibrant tastes of citrus and cheese. I got the salad with Salmon (out of the options of Chicken, Steak, Salmon, and Tofu), but I’ve tried the steak and the chicken before, which were both good also. The sides were even better; the “GF Mac and Cheese” was, well, cheesy, and the “Red Chili Glazed Sweet Potato” made me almost forget that I was eating sweet potatoes. But the best parts of the restaurant come in the form of desserts and drinks. Their lemonades are really unique; I have had a carrot lemonade, a cinnamon-apple lemonade, a rose lemonade, and even a blueberry lemonade when I’ve been there. The desserts, all GF, were not apparent in their lack of gluten… The brownies and the cookies are great, while the muffins are also good. Overall, the restaurant is great, especially for its GF options.
